Issue #10 — Your Friendly Guide to Using AI in Everyday Life
Last week we cleared up the question of AI privacy and safety. This week, we’re turning to something that matters deeply to almost everyone reading this newsletter.
Your brain.
Science has confirmed what many of us already know intuitively: the more we challenge our minds, the sharper they stay. Reading, learning new things, solving puzzles, having stimulating conversations — all of it helps keep our cognitive abilities strong as we age.
And here’s something wonderful: AI is one of the best brain-training tools ever invented. It’s patient, endlessly knowledgeable, available 24 hours a day, and it can challenge your mind in exactly the ways you enjoy most.
🗓️ TRY THIS THIS WEEK
“Keep Your Mind Sharp With These Free AI Brain Tools”
You don’t need a special app or a paid subscription. The same free AI tools we’ve been using all season — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini — can give your brain a serious workout in ways that are actually enjoyable.
Here are five brain-boosting activities you can try this week, each one taking just 10–20 minutes.
🧠 Brain Activity #1: The Daily Trivia Challenge
One of the simplest and most enjoyable things you can do is ask AI to quiz you on topics you love.
“I’d like to do a trivia quiz. Ask me 10 questions about [history / classic movies / geography / music from the 1960s / whatever you enjoy]. After each question, tell me if I’m right and give me an interesting fact about the answer.”
The combination of recall, feedback, and new information is genuinely good for your brain — and it’s fun. You can make it harder or easier, switch topics, or turn it into a friendly competition with a spouse or friend.
🧠 Brain Activity #2: Learn Something New Every Day
Learning new information — especially on topics that genuinely interest you — is one of the most powerful things you can do for cognitive health. AI makes this effortless.
“I want to learn something new today. Tell me something fascinating about [astronomy / ancient history / how the human body works / birds / whatever interests you]. Then ask me a question about it to make sure I understood.”
The simple act of reading, thinking, and then being tested on what you just learned creates new neural connections. Do this daily and it adds up.
🧠 Brain Activity #3: The Memory Story Game
This one is especially good for memory. Ask AI to help you practice a technique called memory storytelling — turning information into vivid stories to help it stick.
“I want to practice my memory. Give me a list of 10 random words. Then help me create a short, vivid story using all 10 words. After I’ve read the story, close it and quiz me on all 10 words.”
This technique — used by memory champions around the world — is far more effective than simple repetition, and far more entertaining.
🧠 Brain Activity #4: The Great Debate
Critical thinking is one of the highest-level brain functions — and one of the most rewarding to exercise. Ask AI to engage you in a friendly intellectual debate on a topic you find interesting.
“I want to have a thoughtful discussion about [a topic you find interesting — history, philosophy, current events, whatever you enjoy]. You take one side and I’ll take the other. Keep it friendly and educational.”
Forming arguments, considering counter-arguments, and defending your position is excellent mental exercise — and AI is a remarkably engaging debate partner.
🧠 Brain Activity #5: Creative Writing Prompts
Creative writing engages more areas of the brain simultaneously than almost any other activity. You don’t need to be a writer — you just need to try.
“Give me a short creative writing prompt — something simple but interesting. I’ll write a paragraph or two, and then you give me friendly feedback and encouragement.”
AI will offer prompts tailored to your interests and give you warm, constructive feedback. Many people who try this discover a love of writing they never knew they had.
🛡️ Bonus: Ask AI to Design a Weekly Brain Training Plan
“I want to keep my mind sharp as I age. Can you create a simple weekly brain training plan for me? I enjoy [list your interests]. I have about 20 minutes a day. Include a mix of memory, learning, creativity, and reasoning activities.”
AI will build you a personalized plan you can follow every week — like having a personal trainer, but for your mind.
⚠️ A Word of Honesty
- AI brain activities are a wonderful complement to an active, engaged life — but they’re not a medical treatment for dementia or cognitive decline.
- If you have serious concerns about your memory, please talk to your doctor. Early evaluation is always worthwhile.
- The best brain health program combines mental activity with physical exercise, good sleep, social connection, and proper nutrition. AI can help with the mental piece — but all the pieces matter.
💬 Reader Story
“I do a trivia quiz with the AI every morning over my coffee. I pick a different topic each week — last week was the history of jazz, this week is the solar system. My daughter says I’ve become the most interesting person at family dinners. I think my brain is actually getting sharper.”
— George, 74, from Louisiana
