🧠 Claude Just Got a Much Better Memory
If you’ve ever chatted with Claude (or any AI assistant) and felt like you were introducing yourself all over again every single time, this update is for you.
This week, Anthropic — the company behind Claude — announced a big change to how Claude remembers things about you. Here’s what’s new, and what it actually means for you as a reader.

🔗 One Memory, Not Several
Claude has two main ways people use it: regular chat (the conversation window most of us use), and something called Cowork, which is more of a “do this task for me” assistant that can work on bigger jobs like organizing files or drafting documents.
Until now, those two had separate memories. If you told Claude in a chat that your daughter’s name is Susan, Cowork wouldn’t know that unless you told it too. Now, they share one memory. Anything Claude learns in a regular chat is available when you use Cowork, and anything Cowork learns comes back the other way.
💡 Try This This Week
Next time you chat with Claude, mention something ongoing — a trip you’re planning, a project, a family member’s name. A few days later, bring it up again in a new conversation and see if Claude remembers without you re-explaining.
📋 You Can Now See Everything It Remembers
This is the part I think matters most for our readers: Claude now shows you what it remembers, organized by topic, right in your settings. You can look through it, edit anything that’s wrong, or delete anything you don’t want it keeping.
Think of it like a filing cabinet you can actually open and go through, instead of a black box.
🔒 Sensitive Topics Are Off by Default
Anthropic built in an important safeguard here. Claude will not save sensitive information — things like your health, race, religion, or political views — unless you specifically turn that on in your settings. It’s off unless you choose otherwise.
If you do decide to turn it on, Claude will let you know each time it saves something sensitive, so you’re never caught by surprise. And a few things — like Social Security numbers or other government ID numbers — are never saved, no matter what.

Open Claude’s settings and look for “Memory.” Take a few minutes to browse what it has saved about you so far — you may be surprised how helpful (or how sparse) it is.

The short version: Claude should feel less like a stranger every time you open it, and more like an assistant who’s actually been paying attention. If you use Claude for anything ongoing — planning a trip, working through a health question with your doctor, keeping track of family details — this update means less repeating yourself.
And if privacy is on your mind (it should be), you now have a clear window into what’s being remembered and full control to change it.
